The most common word you’ve heard in the speaking business throughout the pandemic was overlooked by most before it.
Pivot – Every speaker was forced to either transition to an online business model or be forgotten almost overnight. Some did so with massive success while others had to dig into their savings more than they wanted to.
Speakers like Eric Thomas, Tony Robbins, William Hollis, etc. have all found creative ways to monetize their message using music distribution platforms, and the throughout the pandemic they’ve been getting royalties because of it.
To begin with: “Royalties” are the sums paid to creators when their projects are sold, distributed, embedded in other media or monetized in any other way.
As a professional speaker there is no reason why you should not be earning a dual copyright payout every time you speak on stage. When anyone buys music from any digital store, money from that sale is paid out to creators via both copyrights in.
On demand streaming, as well as when a song is played in businesses, and retailers is when a dual copyright payout is set in motion. Just think about all the times when you are introduced to speak where you could have walked up to your own theme music while also getting paid from that.
Music artist have to worry about their label cutting into their profits but as a speaker you don’t have to worry about that at all. The closest thing to a record label in the speaking business is a speaking bureau, and all they want is a percentage of your speaking gigs.
Again, every time a musical artist performs a PRO is paid out to that artist because that song was listed pre recorded and posted to streaming platforms and is technically a work of art.
As a speaker the same exact thing can be true for you. You’ve got a few talks that you deliver to organizations that book you to speak. However, you don’t necessarily have any version of that talk on a streaming platform helping you get passive income from the digital distribution of that same message.
Sure, your presentation may be great but how do you extend the life of it beyond the stage? How will you keep the audience talking after the event? If you’re presenting to an organization than you need for those same employees to be talking about you months after the event.
Music is the best way to do that especially when it’s right in your pocket. Inspirational words combined with a music score specifically to your speech could change lives.
